Features of the MSO License in Hong Kong for Fintech
I recently came across a discussion about MSO licenses in Hong Kong and decided to ask for clarification here. I have a friend who wants to launch an international money transfer service and is considering Asia, specifically Hong Kong. He says it’s a good hub for financial operations, but I don’t fully understand exactly what opportunities this license offers. Is it more about making it easier to operate in the region, or does it actually open up any additional business opportunities?

Hong Kong is interesting in this regard because it’s one of Asia’s financial hubs, and an MSO license allows you to officially handle money transfers and foreign exchange transactions. This is important if you’re targeting international markets, especially in Asia. When I was researching this topic myself, I came across Gofaizen & Sherle, which has information on these types of licenses. A colleague of mine looked into this option and said that the main advantage is market access and trust from partners, but you have to be prepared to meet compliance and reporting requirements. In other words, it’s not the easiest path, but it offers good opportunities for scaling up.
