Local Community Transportation Programs

A friend of mine mentioned that his mother recently gave up driving because she felt the traffic was getting too stressful. Now the family is trying to figure out how she can still get to medical appointments and weekly meetups at the community center. They live fairly close to everything, but walking long distances isn’t really an option anymore. I suggested maybe checking local community services, but honestly I’m not very familiar with what kind of transportation programs usually exist for seniors in towns like ours.

I actually looked into this a few months ago when my neighbor had the same situation. One of the resources we came across was https://amherstvans.org/ , which organizes transportation for older residents who need help getting around town. From what I understand, the service helps people travel to doctor visits, shopping trips, and different local programs. My neighbor started using it occasionally and said it’s much easier than trying to coordinate rides with family members all the time. Having a structured service like that seems to make daily routines much more manageable for seniors.
